Business Management

While Kinley Elliott decides what her future holds, she is making the most out of her time at Delaware Tech.

Elliott is majoring in business management while competing in softball as a member of the three-time region and district championship softball team.

“It was important for me to go to college because I wanted to expand my knowledge and explore different career opportunities,” Elliott said. “It was important for me to set a good foundation and enable me to be successful in the future.”

Besides the opportunity to continue her softball career, Elliott said she chose Delaware Tech because she was undecided on her major and it provided her with an affordable opportunity to continue her education as she narrows down her future path. She selected business management because it is a broad major and it easily transfers to four-year institutions.

“It’s hard for me to commit to doing one thing for the rest of my life, so that’s kind of where the struggle is,” Elliott said. “One day I can see myself doing one thing and the next day I can see myself doing something else.”

Being a part of a team has allowed Elliott to mature in a short time. She had to balance life as a student-athlete and has made a lot of new friends that she might not have if she had attended a different college.

“Delaware Tech provides a different environment than a four-year university with dorms and other activities, but that doesn’t mean it can’t still be great,” she said. “The college experience no matter where you go is only what you make it.

“I think I have seen growth in my time management skills. Learning how to balance my schoolwork, job, softball, and personal life took a while for me to master, but I have gotten much better at it through every week of college.”

Two areas of interest for a future career that have always stood out to Elliott are athletics and marketing, so she’s hoping she finds something that would allow her to combine the two while providing her with enough free time to travel and enjoy vacations.

She would also like to keep softball in her life in some form once she’s done playing.

“I think softball would always be something where I can get into coaching or help other girls, especially since I’m a pitcher,” Elliott said. “Pitching is a special skill and I can help other people and teach them how to do it.”
