Rylee Pettyjohn

Bachelor of Science in Education

Rylee Pettyjohn became interested in pursuing a teaching career after seeing the impact a supportive school system had on the life of her foster sister.

“I appreciated the time and effort that her teachers took to make an effort in her life no matter the circumstances,” Pettyjohn said. “I want to do the same for each child I come into contact with when I have the opportunities whether I know the circumstances or not.”

Pettyjohn has already graduated with her elementary education degree and is now entering the second year of the College’s Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) program. The second year involves a year-long residency at a local school district.

“Getting to know the students individually and spending an entire year with them and watching them grow and connecting with them and getting to know their homelives and their experiences is what I’m looking forward to the most,” Pettyjohn said.

Pettyjohn loves teaching math and would like to be a first or second grade teacher once she graduates from the BSE program.
